.CODA. [are we monsters, or are we heroes...?]

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 27, 2009, 5:44 PM
  • Mood: Obsessed

It was, at first, no more than an experiment.

A few scientists in a small research laboratory got bored, and decided to tinker with Pokemon DNA. The idea of Pokemorphs came to their heads; it was a common concept for horror movies or sci-fi novels. You could find them in all sorts of fiction: half-human, half-beast creatures that were usually portrayed as wild and dangerous. They began to wonder: what if it were possible? What if they could be the ones to create "Pokemorphs".

Then it grew into something much greater.

Deciding to expand their work to more than just little pieces of research, they began actually running experiments on Pokemon, injecting them with altered human DNA and charting the results. Unfortunately this had little effectiveness; Pokemon were designed for competition, right down to the smallest units of their being. Pokemon DNA could destroy traces of human DNA easily. It was stronger, more dominant. Which lead the scientists to a simple conclusion: if human traits were too weak to be transferred to a Pokemon, perhaps Pokemon traits were strong enough to be transferred to a human.

They were driven to dark measures.

Of course they needed willing test subjects, and not many people would willingly agree to go through dangerous experiments that, if successful, would turn them into twisted beastlike mutants for the rest of their lives. So they dropped the "willing" part and figured they just needed test subjects. Those were easy to come by. All they needed to do was grab some people off the streets. Kidnapping. Of course they'd have to be cautious about it. The general public would start to suspect something odd was up if several people started disappearing from the same areas. So the scientists expanded. They got themselves more labs, spread out, and made sure to carefully go about their "collecting" of subjects.

They were met with success.

After several setbacks and a lot of dead bodies to deal with, there was finally a subject who not only survived the procedure, but was a perfect success. He had been a boy, no older than twelve. Now he was a creature of fur and fang and whisker, half human and half Ratatta. Similar tests were continued, and before long a 90% success rate had been achieved. They were manufacturing Pokemorphs.

Now that you have your army, what shall you do with it?

The problem arised that there was nothing much for the scientists to do. They'd proved their hypothesis: it was in fact possible. But with hundreds of mutants lying about and nothing to do with them, they had to come up with a new objective. One of the scientists, a former member of the fallen Team Rocket, suggested an excellent idea.

"Why, you could take over the world!"

And so it was. They called themselves "Lucem Ferre". They would bring about a new era; they would give rise to an army of monsters unlike any the world had ever seen. Their creations would be their officers, patrolling the streets at night, making sure nobody rebelled or questioned their rule. And they could achieve whatever they desired. Who needed a restrictive government or a life that involved little more than living from paycheck to paycheck? This could be a changed world, a better world, run by geniuses in the world of science who would bring humanity to greater heights! ... Or something. But whatever their aspirations were, Lucem Ferre was out to take over everything. And they were sure they could manage it.

You will, of course, be met with resistance.

The Johtonian government had slowly started to catch on to how odd the recent disappearances were. They tracked who mysteriously faded from existence, where, when, and speculated as to why. Some investigation near Mahogany Town led them back to... a laboratory. One that was thought to have been abandoned years ago. When investigators were sent to find out more, they disappeared without a trace. Shortly afterword sightings of strange creatures were starting to pop up all over the place. On top of that some odd things were happening; more disappearances, buildings burning down, a lot of talk about "Pokemorphs". When all these things were linked together with the laboratories, the govenment took action.

But are their methods any better than yours?

CODA stood in the way. The Coalition for Obstruction of Dangerous Abnormalities was a government agency that dealt with threats like this. An organization of specialized agents, armed and ready to take out anything. But obviously they weren't ready for Pokemorphs. They managed to eliminate one of the labs. This was only because its workers were not prepared for an attack; there were very few of their Pokemorphs there to fend off intruders. Only a bunch of scientists and people in cages. The data CODA collected was invaluable, however. The laboratory's computers documented everything: their plans for world domination, their history, and best of all: how to create a Pokemorph.

The fine line between good and evil has become blurred.

Knowing they couldn't counter Pokemorphs with sheer force, CODA began creating its own Pokemorphs. There were a small handfull of people who agreed to help their cause, saying they'd become Morphs themselves to fight whatever cruel enemy was doing all this. But, of course, they needed more. They needed an army. So they were forced to resort to the same abduction tactics as Lucem Ferre. Of course, they claimed their actions were justified. They were trying to save the world; the sacrificing of a few citizens' humanity was worth that, right? Right...?

So, now we come to the part where I ask... which side are you on?

Lucem Ferre and CODA are now locked in an all-out battle. One wishes to change the world, the other wishes to protect it. It matters not which is "good" or "bad". All that matters is who you're fighting for. Perhaps you were once human. Perhaps you were born in a laboratory. Whatever the case, you are a Pokemorph, and you have been taught to aid whatever cause you now serve. Will you stand by your "creators" and bravely fight for a better future? Or will you perhaps turn on them the moment you get the chance?

The choice is yours.

Welcome to Coda.
